“To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright, tonight we prove once more, that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals, democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope.”

—

-Barack Obama, our next President. (via pstaats)

And did anyone see him ever look at a card, note, paper, or anything? Me neither.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the man. But you know those two plastic rectangles to his right and left? Those are tinted transparent teleprompters. I’m sure he wrote the speech, but he wasn’t speaking from memory.

Newest States to Ban Gay Marriage

amandalynferri:

Proposition 8 in California

Amendment 2 in Florida

Proposition 102 in Arizona

Act 1 in Arkansas

KEWL!

Don’t worry dudes Question 1 didn’t pass in Connecticut. Hopefully this will help inform the world how awesome CT really is…..unless you live in 860. Just Sayin’

Arkansas Proposed Initiative Act No. 1 prevents kids from being adpoted or placed in foster homes of people who cohabitate with a sexual partner they’re not married to. It applies to any couple, gay or straight. Though becuase straight couples can get married in Arkansas and gay couples can’t, it clearly targets gays.

It’s still a stupid and horrible act and I’m not happy it passed. But it doesn’t “ban gay marrage” as your post implies.

In no particular order.

Resizing my browser. Listen guys, my browser window is set to a certain size for a reason, and you really have nothing to gain by making the window size as big as it can possibly be. If anything, it annoys me much more than it helps you fill my screen with your GREAT content. This is especially prevalent in over-styled fashion and art websites.

Making every link open in a new window. Now, I’m aware that Radar does this too, and I only stand by it because Balk is so adament about the process (rarely does he care so much about anything! JK), but I mean really, it’s like that old saying: “If you really love something, you should let it go and if the feeling is mutual it will come back to you.” Meaning, listen, don’t be so jealous Website, just because I’m clicking another link doesn’t mean we’re trhough, I just want to enjoy the other stuff you’re showcasing. Biggest pet peeve? Websites opening new windows for links to their own content, that just doesn’t make any sense. If your tumblr does this, I implore you to change the settings.

Disorganized tags. Radar’s actually guilty of this one too— no wonder we’re re-upping our website completely, but it really irks me when you click a tag for something and you can’t find all the news about that subject because the tags are inconsistent, in spelling or placement— it also bothers me when the character formatting of tags aren’t all the same (ex. Britney Spears, britney spears, Britney_spears), but that’s just moreso me being crazy. I feel like every backend or content management system should have some sort of auto-fill to keep this from happening.

Since I can tell from your “auto-fill” link you use Firefox (client=firefox-a), there are settings you can change to fix these first two issues.

In your options, go to the “Content” section and click on the “Advanced…” button next to the “Enable JavaScript” checkbox. From there uncheck the box for “Move or resize existing windows” (and anything else you’d like to prevent from happening).

For preventing links from opening in a new window, just edit your browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction setting (I’ll trust you’re able to follow the instructions there).

That’s it.

mareen:

2-tetralin-1-yl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole aka Tetryzolin aka Tetrahydrozoline. It’s the active ingredient in Visine and other similar eye drops.

(As I’m sure you figured) it constricts conjunctival blood vessels, relieving redness of the eye.

peterwknox:

“One of the most popular new tools is Twitter, a Web site and messaging service that allows its two-million-plus users to broadcast to their friends haiku-length updates — limited to 140 characters, as brief as a mobile-phone text message — on what they’re doing. There are other services for reporting where you’re traveling (Dopplr) or for quickly tossing online a stream of the pictures, videos or Web sites you’re looking at (Tumblr). And there are even tools that give your location. When the new iPhone, with built-in tracking, was introduced in July, one million people began using Loopt, a piece of software that automatically tells all your friends exactly where you are.”

—

NYTimes.com

Tumblr gets the NYT mention.

Becuase that’s never happened before.

If you have the guts/time, it’s worth jailbreaking your iPhone. I didn’t think it was necessary because of the app store, but now I can record video and use Google maps offline.

Above was once at http://www.peterwknox.com/post/48593362.

First, he didn’t want to reblog http://justsayjolie.tumblr.com/post/48592008/um-this-is-what-happens-when-you-decide-to-use-a (instead taking a screenshot and posting that), and then he deletes that anyway.

Weird.

juliaallison:
